The descriptions of the creatures are so creepy. The author really likes to set the gothic/creepy aesthetic and keep the reader asking questions. We’re told from the start that her family can’t be trusted and that they’ll twist a situation to better suit themselves, so I didn’t trust anyone while reading this. Right from the beginning, you know that there’s something going on with Helen something happens with people that are near her that cause them to sour towards her, except for her estranged family and the Harrow Witch, it seems. She must stay on these grounds for one year or she and her family will be left with nothing. We follow Helen, who has just inherited all of her family’s funds as well as their family home, Harrow Hall.
